Aston Villa's Villa Park expansion has entered a significant new construction phase, with fresh aerial footage revealing extensive piling and concrete work on the North Stand site. The images, filmed on September 22, show the project moving decisively from site preparation into substantial foundation and structural changes.
Piles are being installed in a specific pattern to create the foundations for the expanded structure, with large areas of concrete already poured across the site. Deep reinforcement bar installations are visible, and the rear of the existing North Stand has been substantially stripped back. The scale of the work highlights the project's significance, especially as the club continues to operate the stadium around the construction, with a reduced capacity of just over 37,000 for this season.
Project moves beyond preparation
The work has shifted from earlier demolition to this foundational stage, with a generator room relocated as part of the ongoing changes. Structural gaps are being incorporated into the design to maintain airflow around the pitch and allow for future maintenance. The club chose to accelerate the North Stand project earlier this year, meaning the stand will remain closed throughout this season. Completion is targeted ahead of the 2027/28 campaign, with the redevelopment designed to increase the North Stand substantially and help push the stadium’s total capacity beyond 50,000, while also adding approximately 500 square metres of new first-team facilities.
For supporters attending games this season, the transformation behind the goal will become progressively more noticeable. The next major visual milestone will be when this extensive foundation work gives way to more obvious above-ground structural construction.
