Tammy Abraham scored twice as Aston Villa beat Coventry City 3-1 to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round. The win provides a welcome boost for Unai Emery's side, who sit 19th in the Premier League with just one point from their opening four games.
Abraham raced through on goal to give Villa an early lead in the seventh minute, just their second domestic goal of the season. Coventry levelled through Victor Torp midway through the first half, but Ross Barkley restored the advantage before the break. The 18-year-old winger, making his first start since a £47m move from Paris Saint-Germain, headed home from an Ibrahim Mbaye corner.
Abraham sealed the victory with his second goal just before the hour mark, assisted by Barkley. The striker had been linked with a move away before the transfer deadline but chose to stay and fight for his place.

The result sets up a fourth-round tie away to Bournemouth. It was the first meeting between Villa and Coventry since a 3-2 win in 2001 that sent the Sky Blues down from the top flight.
Villa's recent form shows two wins, a draw and two losses from their last five matches across all competitions. They face a quick return to league action with a trip to 17th-placed Tottenham on Saturday.
