Aston Villa have reportedly approached Club Brugge to sign 22-year-old defender Joel Ordonez as a replacement for Ezri Konsa, who left for Arsenal on Friday. The Spaniard is on a list of three potential alternatives to Konsa, with Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis and an unnamed player also mentioned.
Villa’s interest comes after the club’s defensive options were hit by Konsa’s departure. The club has been linked with Harwood-Bellis, but Ordonez has emerged as a viable alternative. The 22-year-old has made 128 appearances for Club Brugge in all competitions, scoring seven goals, and has represented Ecuador at the World Cup.
Unai Emery will weigh the options after the team faces Brighton & Hove Albion in Sunday’s Premier League fixture at the Amex Stadium. With a week before the next match against Arsenal on August 31, the manager can afford to bide his time before making a final decision.
Emery is familiar with Ordonez, having played against Club Brugge three times in the 2024-25 Champions League, including a 1-0 win in a league-phase match in November 2024 where Ordonez played the full 90 minutes.
