Aston Villa are preparing a bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, according to reports. Villa manager Unai Emery wants reinforcements in the middle of the park at the Midlands club. The Villans hold a serious interest in the Spurs star and agreeing personal terms with him is not expected to be an issue. Sarr also has suitors in Germany and elsewhere, but remaining in the Premier League could appeal to the Senegal international. Villa are offering Champions League football after winning the Europa League last term. Sarr will fancy his chances of impressing at the Midlands club as he is now surplus to requirements at Tottenham following the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. The lack of European football at Spurs next season will leave the 23-year-old struggling for playing opportunities. The Villa target started 20 games across the Premier League and Champions League last term, coming off the bench 15 times. He weighed in with two goals and four assists, earning a place in the Senegalese squad for the World Cup, where he made two appearances. The Villans have signed Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg and Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers to bolster their midfield. However, Emery wants more options and Villa have been in talks to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha on loan. The Portuguese spent last term on loan with Spurs but it appears no progress has been made in negotiations and Villa are now looking at Sarr. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 4th in Premier League, 55 pts, 16W-7D-9L from 32 games, recent form DWLLL.
